Surrey RCMP are investigating a large structure fire at a business on Harris Road where one person was found dead.

Surrey Fire Service and Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a fire at a gas station in the 8700-block of Harvie Road on Oct. 21 at 5:30 a.m.

"Once the fire was deemed under control and the area could be searched, one person was located inside the gas station deceased," states the Surrey RCMP.

Cst. Richard Wright, Media Relations Officer, Surrey RCMP, told Vancouver Is Awesome that there was also some concern for a neighbouring building when the fire broke out. However, he reports in an email that, "From what I can see in the report, there was concern for surrounding structures but the damage was contained to the gas station."

Wright adds that the deceased individual has not been identified at this time.

Surrey RCMP add that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. As such, the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit will be continuing to investigate the fire in collaboration with the Surrey Fire Service.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, if you wish to make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
