'It was pretty hysterical': Bear gets some serious air while picking fruit

Watch Le-Bruin James in action

He's no LeBron James, but there's a bear that's been caught on camera in Metro Vancouver getting a little air.

More of a Le-Bruin James, if you will. Or Cub-e Bryant. Or Wilt Cham-bear-lain.

In short, the bear can jump.

Calvin Brown spotted the bear on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Maple Ridge resident tells V.I.A. he thought it was his neighbour at first, picking some pears, and went to get a bowl to see if he could snag a couple.

"I came back and [the bear] was jumping for the low-hanging fruit," Brown tells V.I.A.

His house is near the forest, and bears are not an uncommon sight, but it was the first time he'd seen a bear jumping for fruit in the tree; it seems past visits may have meant the fruit is growing a little higher.

"Basically, over the years, bears have ripped off full limbs to get fruit," says Brown.

Also in the past, a mother bear had sent her cubs up the tree to get some sweet snacks.

Brown, who's familiar with the local bears in his neighbourhood, shot the video while safely on his side of the fence; while the bear could jump a little, it wasn't going to vault the fence anytime soon. At the same time, he kept his dogs in when he realized it was a bear next door.

"I let him pick his fruit and be gone," says Brown.

Unfortunately, he wasn't able to watch the visitor for too long, just long enough to get the shot.

"I wish I had watched him a little more," says Brown. "It was pretty hysterical."
