SEATTLE (AP) — Eugenio Suárez hit his second three-run homer in two games and the Seattle Mariners held off the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Wednesday.

Luke Raley had an RBI double and Bryan Woo earned his 12th win to help the Mariners take two of three in the series. They hold the final American League wild-card spot and sit just behind first-place Houston in the AL West.

Fernando Tatis Jr. laced an RBI double with two outs in the ninth inning for the Padres. He was stranded at third when Andrés Muñoz retired Ramón Laureano on a game-ending groundout.

San Diego, in position for a National League wild card, is right on the heels of the rival Dodgers atop the NL West.

The Padres and Mariners share a spring training site in Peoria, Arizona.

Suárez, who hit a three-run shot Tuesday, replicated the feat in the fourth when he turned on a cutter from starter Yu Darvish (3-4). It was Suárez’s 42nd home run of the season, third-most in the majors.

The Mariners opened the scoring in the second when Raley flared a run-scoring double with two outs.

Gavin Sheets had an RBI single off Woo (12-7) in the sixth, and another run came around when Jake Cronenworth was hit by a pitch from reliever Gabe Speier.

Muñoz got three outs for his 31st save.

ATLANTA 12, MARLINS 1

MIAMI (AP) — Ozzie Albies homered and drove in five runs, and Atlanta beat Miami.

Jurickson Profar hit two solo homers for the Braves, who outscored the Marlins 21-1 over the last 10 innings of their three-game series. Matt Olson and Michael Harris II also went deep.

Atlanta star Ronald Acuña Jr. walked four times and was hit by a pitch, leading to the ejection of manager Brian Snitker.

Braves starter Joey Wentz (3-3) permitted one run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings.

After winning six consecutive series to get to 55-55 on Aug. 3, the Marlins (62-71) lost their seventh straight series.

Olson hit a two-run homer and Albies added a three-run drive against Ryan Gusto in the third. It was Albies’ third homer of the series after he hit two on Tuesday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer and Cody Bellinger homered on the next pitch as New York went deep four times and scored nine runs in the third inning of a rout of Washington.

Max Fried (14-5) took a no-hit bid into the sixth before allowing three straight hits. He allowed one run and four hits in seven innings for his longest start since June 25.

The Yankees entered the third with a 1-0 lead after Trent Grisham hit his sixth leadoff homer this season off Washington starter Cade Cavalli (1-1).

Judge hit a two-run homer above Monument Park in center field and Bellinger followed with a drive into the Yankees’ bullpen in right-center. Ryan McMahon hit a three-run homer after Washington catcher Drew Millas fractured a finger on a catcher’s interference play.

Ben Rice, who had three hits, also homered to give the Yankees a 9-0 lead. Jasson Domínguez hit an RBI double and had a run-scoring infield single in the 40-minute third inning.

Austin Wells added a homer in the fourth.

GUARDIANS 4, RAYS 3, 10 innings

CLEVELAND (AP) — Kyle Manzardo hit a game-ending single with two out in the 10th inning, and Cleveland topped Tampa Bay.

Angel Martínez opened the 10th on second as the automatic runner and advanced on Bo Naylor’s sacrifice. Steven Kwan drew an intentional walk and advanced to second on defensive indifference.

After Brayan Rocchio struck out, Manzardo lined an 0-2 fastball from Griffin Jax (1-7) into center to give Cleveland its second straight win and snap a three-series losing streak.

It was the third game-ending hit of the season for Manzardo. He is the first Cleveland player with at least three such hits since Jim Thome in 2001.

Nolan Jones hit a tying solo drive to right-center off Tampa Bay’s Pete Fairbanks with one out in the ninth. Jones’ fourth homer was Cleveland’s first extra-base hit in 45 innings, going back to the eighth inning of Friday’s game at Texas.

Will Wilson added a career-high three hits. Cade Smith (6-5) got the win after retiring the Rays in order in the 10th.

Brandon Lowe hit a two-run homer in the third inning for Tampa Bay, which has dropped six of nine. Everson Pereira added an RBI single.

RED SOX 3, ORIOLES 2

BALTIMORE (AP) — Ceddanne Rafaela hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to lift Boston to a victory over Baltimore.

After Keegan Akin (4-4) worked out of a jam in the eighth to preserve a one-run lead, the left-hander couldn’t contain Boston in the ninth.

Jarren Duran led off with a single and Rafaela followed with a towering fly that cleared the wall in left-center.

An apparent miscommunication between Duran and Rafaela helped Baltimore take a 2-1 lead in the seventh. After Baltimore’s Dylan Beavers drew a two-out walk, Dylan Carlson hit a liner that landed at the base of the wall between the two Boston outfielders, each of whom appeared unsure who was going to try to make the catch.

Boston starter Brayan Bello allowed two runs, one earned, and five hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Greg Weissert (6-4) got the win, and Aroldis Chapman worked a perfect ninth for his 26th save and his 14th consecutive hitless appearance.

Roman Anthony got Boston started with a shot to center off Dietrich Enns on the fifth pitch of the game. Two nights earlier, the rookie became the youngest player in Red Sox history (21 years, 104 days) to hit a leadoff homer.

METS 6, PHILLIES 0

NEW YORK (AP) — Nolan McLean became the first New York Mets pitcher to win his first three major league starts, tossing eight magnificent innings in a victory over Philadelphia that completed a three-game sweep.

Mark Vientos homered and drove in three runs as the resurgent Mets moved within four games of first-place Philadelphia in the NL East. They improved to 7-2 against the rival Phillies this year, clinching the season series and a potential postseason tiebreaker.

The teams play a four-game series in Philadelphia from Sept. 8-11.

New York began the night with a 3 1/2-game lead over Cincinnati for the final National League wild card.

The Mets are 8-3 since McLean (3-0) made his debut Aug. 16 against Seattle. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed four hits and walked none with six strikeouts, throwing 95 pitches and lowering his ERA to 0.89. He retired 15 straight batters following Alec Bohm’s second-inning single and faced the minimum until Bryce Harper’s two-out single in the seventh.

Bohm and Max Kepler opened the eighth with singles, but McLean preserved the shutout by retiring Nick Castellanos and Bryson Stott on medium-depth flyouts and inducing Harrison Bader to hit a squibber back toward the mound. McLean pounded his right fist into his glove as the Citi Field crowd of 41,893 roared.

Brooks Raley tossed a one-hit ninth to close out the five-hitter.

BLUE JAYS 9, TWINS 8

TORONTO (AP) — Addison Barger had a two-run double in the eighth inning and Toronto rallied to beat Minnesota.

Toronto trailed 8-6 heading to the bottom of the eighth against reliever Génesis Cabrera, but pinch-hitter Ty France cut the deficit to one with his second home run of the season.

Pinch-hitter Alejandro Kirk chased Cabrera with a single and Michael Tonkin (2-1) walked George Springer before Barger doubled off the wall in right.

Davis Schneider homered twice and Andrés Giménez also connected for the Blue Jays. Toronto is 58-4 when scoring five or more.

Schneider hit a two-out homer in the second and a leadoff drive in the fourth in his third career multihomer game. The homers were his ninth and 10th.

Seranthony Domínguez (3-4) got two outs for the win and Jeff Hoffman finished for his 29th save in 36 chances.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubled leading off the sixth against Sonny Gray (12-7). Jared Triolo walked and Spencer Horwitz reached on a throwing error by first baseman Willson Contreras to load the bases. Gray retired Bryan Reynolds on a forceout at home before Pham hit the next pitch up the middle.

Masyn Winn had a two-out single off Mlodzinski in the second and Thomas Saggese walked before Pedro Pagés singled to put the Cardinals up 1-0.

Isaac Mattson pitched a scoreless eighth for Pittsburgh and Dennis Santana finished for his 10th save in 12 opportunities.

HOUSTON (AP) — Yordan Alvarez homered for the first time since returning from a fractured right hand, helping Framber Valdez and Houston beat Colorado.

Valdez (12-7) allowed three hits — all singles — in seven innings. The left-hander struck out five and walked two.

Cam Smith also went deep for Houston, which remained 1 1/2 games ahead of Seattle for the top spot in the AL West.

DIAMONDBACKS 3, BREWERS 2

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Blaze Alexander and Geraldo Perdomo homered, Ryne Nelson limited Milwaukee to a run in six innings and Arizona beat the major league-leading Brewers to end a three-game losing streak.

Nelson (7-3) allowed six hits and struck out three without walking a batter for his first victory since July 19. Andrew Saalfrank got the final five outs for his third save.

Arizona took a 2-1 lead in the sixth against Erick Fedde (4-13), with Perdomo singling and Alexander hitting an opposite-field shot to right. After fouling a pitch off his toe, Perdomo made it 3-1 in the eighth with a homer to right off Nick Mears.

Milwaukee’s William Contreras homered off Juan Burgos in the eighth.

The Brewers got two innings out of opener Aaron Ashby before turning things over to Fedde, the right-hander who signed a one-year contract earlier Wednesday.

ROYALS 12, WHITE SOX 1

CHICAGO (AP) — Salvador Perez hit a leadoff homer and a two-run double in Kansas City’s eight-run fifth inning as the Royals pummeled Chicago.

Perez’s double gave him 993 RBIs — one more than Amos Otis for third place in Royals history. Next on the list is Hal McRae with 1,012. George Brett leads with 1,596.

Ryan Bergert (2-1) pitched a season-high six innings, allowing one run and six hits for his first win in five starts with Kansas City. Jonathan Bowlan, Angel Zerpa and Daniel Lynch IV finished with a scoreless inning apiece.

Perez tied it at 1 with his 23rd homer when he connected off Aaron Civale (3-9). Bobby Witt Jr. chased Civale with a two-out, two-run single and Vinnie Pasquantino greeted Tyler Gilbert with a two-run single for a 5-1 lead. Adam Frazier doubled in Perez for an 8-1 advantage.

RANGERS 20, ANGELS 3

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Adolis García, Joc Pederson and Kyle Higashioka each hit a three-run homer, Corey Seager went deep a team-leading 21st time and Texas blew out Los Angeles.

García’s 17th home run highlighted a four-run first inning, Pederson made it 7-1 in the second with his seventh of the season and Seager added a two-run shot in the fourth.

Higashioka’s 10th homer for a 20-3 lead came on the last of 21 pitches — all between 30 and 40 mph — from Oswald Peraza, who moved to the mound from first base in the seventh and allowed eight runs while getting one out.

The first three homers came against Jack Kochanowicz, who was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake before the game for his 23rd start in his third stint with the Angels this season.

Kochanowicz (3-11) allowed 11 runs with 10 earned — both career highs — in 3 1/3 innings. The right-hander’s ERA rose to 6.81.

DODGERS 5, REDS 1

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani struck out a season-high nine in five innings for his first victory for the Dodgers as Los Angeles beat Cincinnati to become the first team to sweep the Reds this season.

The Dodgers won their fourth straight game and extended their NL West lead to two games over San Diego, which lost 4-3 at Seattle.

Ohtani (1-1) bounced back against the Reds in his 11th start of the season and first in which he went the minimum five innings to qualify for a win. The victory was his first since Aug. 9, 2023, with the Angels against San Francisco.

The two-way star allowed one run and two hits while walking two on a season-high 87 pitches, 53 for strikes, while retiring his final eight batters on his bobblehead night. At the plate, he was 1 for 5 with a run.

The Reds led 1-0 on Noelvi Marte’s 410-foot homer on the first pitch by Ohtani in the third. It was the third homer Ohtani has allowed this season.

The Dodgers scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead in the fourth. Kiké Hernández, starting in place of injured Freddie Freeman, had a two-run single up the middle. It was the third straight single allowed by Nick Lodolo (8-7), who retired the first nine batters he faced.

GIANTS 12, CUBS 3

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Rafael Devers homered twice and doubled in a run on the way to five RBIs, Matt Chapman hit his 200th career home run, and San Francisco beat Chicago for its fourth straight win.

Devers hit a solo homer in the first and added a three-run drive in the sixth for his 21st career multihomer game, third this year and second since joining the Giants in a trade from Boston in mid-June.

Chapman added an RBI single into shallow right in the fifth that right fielder Kyle Tucker then threw wildly over home plate allowing a second run to score. Casey Schmitt followed with an RBI single.

Heliot Ramos also homered, while Willy Adames and Dominic Smith each added sacrifice flies in the third inning.

Giants rookie starter Carson Whisenhunt (2-1) allowed three runs on five hits, struck out three and walked three in his fifth career start and second outing since being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento last Friday.

Nico Hoerner hit a three-run homer in the second inning for the Cubs. They have lost both series this season to San Francisco after the Giants won two of three from at Wrigley Field in May.

ATHLETICS 7, TIGERS 0

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Luis Morales pitched seven sparkling innings, Zack Gelof homered, doubled and drove in four runs, and the Athletics beat Detroit to sweep its three-game series.

The AL Central-leading Tigers lost their fourth in a row and fell a half-game behind AL East-leading Toronto for the best record in the American League.

Brett Harris and Nick Kurtz each had two hits and scored two runs.

Harris doubled off Detroit starter Casey Mize leading off the fourth and scored when a throwing error by Mize allowed Gelof to reach safely, making it 5-0.

Mize (12-5) permitted five runs and seven hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Kurtz singled leading off the first, moved to second when Shea Langeliers walked and scored on a single by Tyler Soderstrom.

Spencer Torkelson tripled in the second and Dillon Dingler singled in the fifth for Detroit’s only hits.
