2-month closure for Highway 99 onramp

The northbound loop onramp from Steveston Highway is closing for construction on the Massey Tunnel replacement project.

The northbound loop onramp from Steveston Highway to Highway 99 will close starting Wednesday, Nov. 15.

A detour will be in place for accessing northbound Highway 99 from eastbound Steveston Highway, according to a City of Richmond announcement on Monday.

The closure allows for work on the new five-lane Steveston Interchange, which is a part of the Highway 99 Tunnel Program to replace the George Massey Tunnel.

The new Steveston Interchange, which will replace the existing two-lane overpass at Steveston Highway and Highway 99 with two eastbound and three westbound lanes, broke ground in 2022. It is expected to finish in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Province expects to have a team in place by next spring to design and build a new eight-lane immersed tube tunnel to replace the Massey Tunnel. The project will cost around $4.1 billion.

Drivers are advised to plan for delays.
