These are the B.C. GoFundMe campaigns no one's supporting

There are dozens and dozens of unbacked goals. Granted, some of them are very stupid.

Crowdfunding has emerged as the go-to way for Kamloopsians to support families in need, aid victims of tragic accidents or help someone accomplish their dream.

But what if that dream is just to buy a cheeseburger?

GoFundMe doesn't disclose what percentage of their campaigns receive zero donations, but a quick scroll through the Kamloops page shows dozens and dozens of unbacked goals. Granted, some of them are very stupid.

Today, we give those campaigns a nod.

This guy just wants a snack

A week ago, Richard Carrick craved a burger. He launched a campaign hoping to raise the five dollars in support of that craving.

Still sitting at a goose egg, one could say he has yet to meat his goal.

Supplement this speeding ticket

Everyone has had a bad day, where simply nothing seems to go your way. Maia Manshadi had one of those in August 2019, getting hit with a speeding fine, as well as a failure to display the N sticker.

"I am a good citizen who made a bad decision and next time I will calm down before I speed so I don’t make the unsafe decision to drive fast I have to get rid of my cat OK I was upset I’m sorry," writes Manshadi.

Either the public didn't find that apology sincere or they don't care to fund some new driver's error, because the campaign to raise $247 to cover the ticket hasn't gotten a single donation in the 187 days since the page went live. Guess that makes every day since then a bad one too.

Expressing one's inner dinosaur

"Dear Friends," writes Henry Albuquerque. "Although I was born a human, I have always felt like a mammal from 66 million years ago, specifically, a T-Rex."

(It's just like a Tyrannosaurus rex to be unaware that it's not a member of the mammal class).

In order for Albuquerque to fulfil his dream of being a dinosaur for Halloween, he was asking for $100 from helpful citizens.

And even though he wasn't able to reach his crowdfunding goal, Henry tells KamloopsMatters he still got to live out his dream.

So if your campaign doesn't work out, just remember, life finds a way.

Upgrade a gamer's experience

Apparently launched by a cartoon sea sponge, this campaign was generously started for a friend who is stuck in a rut.

"So my friend Oliver, I noticed his bum ass was playing lego star wars III and everyone knows that game is f**king shit so i will be using the $3.5k to buy him Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga as well as a $3.4k gaming setup. No scam."

Glad Spongebob clarified that this was not a scam, in case you were worried giving someone $3,500 for a $15 game might be a rip-off.

Charitable caesar salad

"Hello, I am definitely humen person," writes user Colter Jardine. "I require Suffencent Funds For The Humon delicacy Caeser salad. I would like to enjoy it with my human mouth and arm."

How has Kamloops not rallied behind this very believable case of definitely-not-a-robot starvation?

GoFundMe test

Almost a year ago, Eric Haight set out to see if the crowdfunding website "works." Works, in this case, means Haight gets a single dollar for doing nothing.

No one has donated yet, which must mean this whole website is broken. What a shame!
