VICTORIA — British Columbia reported 814 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday as the number of active infections stood at 5,550 across the province.

In a news release, the provincial government says 129 of those who were infected were being treated in intensive care while 261 were in hospital.

There have been no new deaths.

Officials say 272 of the new cases were in the Interior Health region, which brought back restrictions on indoor and outdoor gatherings in late August after a spike in infections.

The government says about 78 per cent of those who are eligible in B.C. have received both shots of a COVID-19 vaccine.

B.C. residents can now get their digital or paper proof-of-vaccination online in order to go out to restaurants or attend gyms and ticketed events starting next week.
