Crews work to save life of flagger injured at Burnaby construction site

Emergency crews perform CPR on a flagger who was injured Wednesday morning at Hastings and Ellesmere.

A worker at a construction site in Burnaby has suffered life-threatening injuries in a traffic accident on Wednesday morning.

Just after 11 a.m., Burnaby crews were called to Hastings Street and Ellesmere Avenue for a report of a woman hit by a cement truck at a construction site.

When crews arrived, they found a traffic flagger laying down behind a truck without life signs.

Crews did CPR for at least 30 minutes before transporting the person to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Worksafe BC has been called in to help investigate what happened. Burnaby RCMP are also investigating.

Burnaby RCMP are asking that anyone who may have witnessed this collision or potentially have dash cam video in the area when the incident took place to please contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.

Between 2011 and 2020, 12 roadside workers were killed and 207 were injured resulting in time loss in B.C., according to information issued the recent 11th annual province-wide Cone Zone awareness campaign. Last year, 23 workers were injured because of being hit by a motor vehicle.
