This driver was clocked at 223 km/h on a B.C. highway

RCMP South Okanagan Traffic Services say they stopped a driver this week going 223 km/h on Highway 97 just north of Penticton. 

Police pulled over the four-door Volkswagen Thursday (Jan. 30) at 10 a.m. near Sage Mesa in the 100 km/h zone.

The driver was fined for excessive speeding and saw his vehicle impounded.

“It’s unfortunate that so soon after we saw a tragic motor vehicle fatality on this stretch of highway, we have drivers who are willing to risk their own and other motorists lives," said Const. James Grandy. 

The name of the driver was not released.
