Police investigating whether deadly Burnaby shooting was a gang hit

A White Nissan Rogue was set on fire in the area of 173 Street and 101 Avenue in Surrey Thursday, and IHIT is looking into whether that incident is linked to the death of a 17-year-old youth found shot to death at a Burnaby housing complex.

Homicide investigators are looking into whether a deadly targeted shooting at a Burnaby housing complex and a vehicle fire in Surrey were linked.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has confirmed a 17-year-old youth was found shot to death in a vehicle at Lions Mulberry Place (7420 Mulberry Place) near Cariboo Road Thursday morning.

Police say the victim had been a resident of the complex, according to an IHIT news release Friday.

Investigators believe the shooting took place at about 9 a.m., according to the release.

Initial evidence suggests the shooting was targeted, according to the release, and investigators are working to determine if it is connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

A White Nissan Rogue was reported set on fire in the area of 173 Street and 101 Avenue in Surrey at about  9:15 a.m. Thursday, according to IHIT, and the team is working to determine if the two incidents are linked.
