This B.C. lottery winner almost missed out on getting her $500,000 prize

At first she thought she didn't have any winning numbers, then she learned she actually had a big win

Penticton resident Anna Fodor plans on purchasing a new truck and trailer with the proceeds from her winning lottery ticket.

Fodor nearly missed out on $500,000, initially thinking she wasn’t a winner when she checked the ticket she purchased at Duncan Grocery.

“I had checked on the BCLC website and I didn’t have any winning numbers on the main draw,” said Fodor. “I didn’t realize I had won until I scanned it at the corner store where I bought the ticket.”

She matched all seven numbers for one of the 42 Maxmillion prizes from the Jan. 7, 2020 Lotto Max draw — splitting the $1M prize with a winner in Ontario with the same winning numbers.

Fodor described the win as “amazing, pure happiness.”

Fodor travelled to BCLC’s Kamloops head office to pick up her $500,000 cheque.

“I was born in Kamloops and lived in B.C. all my life,” she explained.

Topping her post-lotto win shopping list? A new Toyota Tacoma.

“I will buy a truck and probably a fifth wheel (trailer) for travelling and invest the rest wisely... It will make a huge difference in my life.”
