BC Ferries says a man went overboard one of its vessels just before noon this morning.
In an email, Deborah Marshall, Executive Director of Public Affairs with BC Ferries, tells Vancouver Is Awesome that BC Ferries received a report of a person overboard from Deck 7 on the Coastal Inspiration just after 11:30 a.m.
Marshall adds that the vessel was on its scheduled 10:15 a.m. sailing from Duke Point to Tsawwassen at the time of the incident.
"The Coastal Inspiration launched one of its rescue boats. Another vessel was on scene and retrieved the male from the water. The male was then transferred from the pleasure craft to BC Ferries’ rescue boat," writes Marshall.
"The Queen of Alberni, the other vessel on the route, stopped to render assistance if required."
Following this, a Coast Guard vessel arrived on scene and the male was transferred to the Hovercraft. The Coast Guard vessel departed the scene at approximately 12:10 p.m.
"Both of our ships are running behind schedule as a result of the incident," adds Marshall.
