The Conservation Officer Service (COS) handed out $25,300 in campfire ban violations over the long weekend.
In a Facebook post shared Tuesday, the COS says the tickets (22 of them at $1,150 each) were issued from July 1 to 4.
"The regions with the most tickets were the #SouthCoast and #Kootenays," the post reads. "Patrols will continue throughout the summer."
The provincewide campfire ban came into effect June 30. The ban covers Category 2 (backyard and industrial burning) and Category 3 (industrial and resource management burning) open fires.
The following activities are also not allowed:
- The use of fireworks
- The use of sky lanterns
- The use of burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
- The use of binary exploding targets
- The use of tiki and similar kinds of torches
- The use of chimineas
- The use of outdoor stoves or other portable campfire apparatus without a Canadian Standards Association or Underwriter Laboratories of Canada rating
- The use of air curtain burners in Cariboo, Coastal, Northwest, Prince George and Southeast fire centres
