Prince George is the worst place in B.C. to study, report says

The city was ranked 21st nationally for academic excellence, but amongst the worst in Canada for attractiveness, quality of life and student life.

Prince George is the worst city in B.C. for post-secondary students to live and study in, according to a national ranking released by Hellosafe.

The company ranked university cities in Canada, based on 18 criteria related to academic excellence, student life, quality of life and attractiveness. Prince George was ranked 38th out of 47 cities in the 2023 report, the lowest among B.C. cities ranked in the report.

Prince George was ranked 21st in academic excellence, 39th in attractiveness, 41st for quality of life and 44th for student life, for an overall score of 83. Prince George moved up nine places from the 2021 version of the report, which ranked the city as the worst place to study in Canada.

Kingston, Ont. was ranked No. 1 overall, with a score of 152, while Antigonish, Nova Scotia took the bottom spot from Prince George with a score of 72.

Vancouver was the best place to study in B.C., ranking third nationally – fourth in academic excellence, attractiveness and student life, and 26th in quality of life for an overall score of 143.

Burnaby was ranked 15th , Surrey 17th, Victoria 20th, Naniamo 23rd, Abbotsford 25th and Kamloops 26th nationally.
