RICHMOND — British Columbia homicide investigators say a 33-year-old man from Richmond has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in the death of a woman who had been a relationship with him.

The RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says in a statement that officers responded Friday morning to a report of a woman suffering from serious injuries at a residence along Capstan Way.

It says the woman was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Mounties say the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder against George Dragnea the next day.

They say the accused had been in a relationship with the victim, and the woman's death is believed to have been an isolated incident.

Sgt. Freda Fong says police are "saddened by this tragedy," and there is more work to be done to support the victim's grieving family and the prosecution process.
