Travel advisories and closures are still affecting most major highways linking the Southern Interior to the Lower Mainland.

On the Coquihalla, a travel advisory is in effect between Merritt and Hope and between Merritt and West Kamloops, warning of heavy snow and freezing rain throughout the region.

The advisory also covers Highway 97C, the Okanagan Connector.

The Ministry of Transportation says travel is not recommended unless essential. If you do have to drive the routes, be prepared for rapidly changing conditions and closures with short notice.

Highway 1 is closed north of Boston Bar due to an avalanche hazard between Haig Station Rd and Boston Bar Station Rd.

On Highway 3, there’s a travel advisory between Hope and Hedley because of heavy snow and freezing rain. Drivers should expect rapidly deteriorating conditions. Only travel if it’s essential and be prepared for closures.

To the East, freezing rain has prompted a travel advisory between Cranbrook and the B.C./Alberta Border.

As conditions improve, advisories have been lifted on some other routes including Hwy 1 between Pritchard and Malakwa, Highway 97 between Osoyoos and Hwy 1 and Highway 6 between Vernon and Cherryville.

The Kootenay Pass on Highway 3 was closed for several hours because of avalanche hazard but reopened this morning.
