A man and a youth are in custody after a man was stabbed and had his vehicle stolen from an apartment parking lot.

Nanaimo RCMP say they believe the stabbing was unprovoked.

Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien said there is no known connection between the victim and suspects.

The victim, a 21-year-old man, was treated for a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

Police said the incident happened about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday in the parking lot of an apartment in the 6400-block of Portsmouth Road, in the north end of the city.

The victim told officers he was standing near his vehicle when a man and three youths approached him.

An altercation started, the victim was stabbed and the group fled in his vehicle, he said.

Police obtained descriptions of the suspects and vehicle, and all were located about an hour later.

Two of the youths were released later in the day with multiple conditions, while a 16-year-old and a 26-year-old man were remanded in custody and are expected to appear in court this week.

The victim’s wallet was located and has been returned.

Police said they would like to speak to the person who found the wallet, who is asked to call them at 250-754-2345.
