Valemount vying for ‘Strongest Town’ title

The small B.C. town is competing to be crowned the Strongest Town in North America.

Valemount , B.C. is facing off agaisnt Saranac Lake New York in the North American-wide Strongest Town competition.

Valemount is facing off in the first round bracket of the Strongest Town Contest. Voters across the continent will decide which town will advance to the Elite Eight round of this March Madness-style trounament.

Valemount is facing off against Saranac Lake, New York in the competition to find North America’s strongest town.

The contest is meant to spotlight and celebrate communities that are continuously becoming more resilient and prosperous through bottom-up action.

The Strongest Town Contest features 16 communities, nominated by residents and selected to compete by a team of town making experts.

The winner of the contest will attend the Strongest Town National Gathering in Charlotte North Carolina, where they will receive an award and serve as an honoured guest.

Organizers will also produce a special video about the winning community for a national audience, holding them out as an example of how cities can build economic resilience.

The contest is modelled after the NCAA March Madness tournament, with communities advancing in single-elimination match-ups each week throughout March and April.

The contest goes live on Monday March 20 and the first round of voting ends on Thursday, March 23. After the contest wraps up, the winner will be announced Friday April, 14.
