All Metro Vancouver Disney Store locations closing down

Disney stores will be a rare sight soon.

Soon Vancouverites won't have a place to buy things from 'The Happiest Place On Earth.'

Disney is shutting down all its stores in Canada, which means all Metro Vancouver locations: Pacific Centre in Vancouver, Metrotown in Burnaby, and Guildford Town Centre in Surrey, according to a report from industry publication Retail Insider. All 18 shops across Canada are slated to close, according to sources, but that staff haven't been told officially.

Closures are expected this summer.

Disney had announced in March at least 60 stores would be closing but hadn't released which locations.

"Today Disney announced plans to focus on its ecommerce business and significantly reduce its brick-and-mortar footprint, beginning with the closure of at least 60 stores in North America this year,” read the announcement.

“Over the next year Disney will focus on providing a more seamless, personalized and franchise-focused ecommerce experience through its shopDisney platform which will be complemented by greater integration with Disney Parks apps and social media platforms. This will be coupled with an assortment of new and elevated merchandise from the Company’s full range of brands, including adult apparel collections and artist collaborations, trend-forward streetwear, premium home products and collectibles."

Disney noted there will still be in-person shopping experiences at Disney Park stores, shop-in-shops and other locations.
