The New Westminster Chamber of Commerce is holding an all-candidates meeting for New Westminster-Burnaby on Sept. 16.

Four New Westminster-Burnaby candidates will be squaring off at an upcoming all-candidates meeting.

The New Westminster Chamber of Commerce is holding an all-candidates meeting on Thursday, Sept. 16. The online meeting will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Zoom.

Rozina Jaffer (Liberal), Peter Julian (NDP), David Macdonald (Green) and Paige Munro (Conservative) will be attending the meeting.

People are invited to email questions they’d like included in the discussion to memberservices@newwestchamber.com. People will also have the opportunity to ask questions via the Chat function on Zoom during the event.

To register, go to www.newwestchamber.com.

On Sept. 7, Jaffer, Julian and Macdonald attended an all-candidates meeting about the climate crisis that was hosted by environmental groups. Munro declined to attend and People’s Party of Canada candidate Kevin Heide was not invited.

Julian told those attending the virtual meeting that it’s fundamental to democracy for candidates to debate important issues. He gave a shout-out to Jaffer and Macdonald for participating in the all-candidates meeting.

“I do note that this is the third consecutive election where the Conservative candidate has not come to an environmental forum. To my mind, these are like job interviews. If you are not willing to show up for the job interview, you shouldn’t get the job,” said Julian, who is seeking re-election. “That’s my comment on the Conservative absence, again, this year for this election.”
