Stick in Link: Lingering Kadri takes; Virtanen scratched

Also, Troy Stecher; Mark Spector defends Canucks fans; and Willie Watch
Stick in Link
Stick in Link

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursdayish. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at [email protected] or tweet us @passittobulis. Or tell us some other way. The point is: we'll probably link it if we know about it.)

  • This is the first Stick in Link of the week, so we have to touch on the Nazem Kadri hit on Daniel Sedin. Jim Benning reportedly campaigned hard for a suspension, but to no avail. [The Province]
  • Nazem Kadri won’t apologize for his hit on Daniel Sedin. There’s no pressure on him to do so or change the way he plays, because the Department of Player Safety decided the hit was fine. So, best of luck to forwards facing the Leafs this season. Hope you don't end up like Marc Savard. [Globe and Mail]
  • Kerry Fraser thinks Kadri deserved a suspension, but puts the blame on the wording of the rule rather than the Department of Player Safety. [Kerry Fraser]
  • J.D. Burke, on the other hand, thinks there was plenty of room within the rules as written to throw the book at Kadri. [Canucks Army]
  • Several Canucks tidbits in Elliotte Friedman’s always excellent 30 Thoughts, including some great stuff from Troy Stecher’s old skills coach, Yogi Svejkovsky, who Stecher credits for his strong positional play. Svejkovsky compares Stecher to Brendan Gallagher in his love for the game and ability to observe the game. [Sportsnet]
  • The most confusing aspect of Monday night’s game against the Islanders was Jake Virtanen getting scratched with Jannik Hansen on the IR. Apparently he’ll be scratched again Tuesday. Whatever the reason, Wyatt Arndt notes that scratching both him and Stecher isn’t make the fans happy. [The Province
  • Second most confusing part of Monday’s game: Bo Horvat barely played. [The Daily Hive
  • You may not like Mark “Moon Knight” Spector, but this is a strong take: “The Vancouver fan base I have come to know over these many years is every bit as passionate as any across the country...But give them this Canucks lineup, and tell them their Canucks are a playoff team, and they won’t be fooled. They’re not dumb.” [Sportsnet]
  • This Canucks fan heard about what Erik Gudbranson said after the Leafs game—”Matt Martin is dead”—and immediately made the connection to another Canucks #44: Todd Bertuzzi. He has a simple message for Gudbranson and the Canucks: never again. [Nucks Misconduct
  • An intriguing take on Mike Gillis’s biggest success as a president and GM of the Canucks and Trevor Linden’s biggest failure: establishing an organizational culture. [Stuology]
  • It’s time for Willie Watch 2016! Canucks fans are keeping a close eye on their Willie and wondering when he’ll get the axe. [Always90Four
  • Finally, in case you missed it, it's the return of a classic Pass it to Bulis feature: musical parodies! This time around, PITB stands for Pass it to Bastille, as I parodied "Good Grief." [Pass it to Bulis]
