Stick in Link: Tanev a rookie again; Demko and McCann's bromance

Also, that rumour you never heard isn't true and who will be the new goaltending coach?

Stick in Link

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursdayish. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at [email protected] or tweet us @passittobulis. Or tell us some other way. The point is: we'll probably link it if we know about it.)

  • This is a great profile on Chris Tanev, who’s a rookie once again, including some great comments from his Junior A GM: “He just worked hard all the time – never took a shift off, never took a day off, never took a moment off.” [Hockey Canada]
  • An interview with Thatcher Demko in which he describes his relationship with Jared McCann as a “bromance” and talks about completing his degree in Applied Psychology and Human Development (with a minor in Philosophy). [Canucks Army]
  • Speaking of Jared McCann, he was at the Canucks Autism Network’s Sports Day. Highlight of the video: McCann getting left hanging on a high five. Harsh. [CanucksTV]

  • Elliotte Friedman took a moment in an intermission during the Blues and Stars Game 7 to quash all those rumours that the Canucks were interested in hiring Dale Tallon. You know, all those rumours. The ones that were definitely out there, like...proliferating and stuff. No truth to those rumours that we absolutely all heard and were talking about incessantly. [Sportsnet]
  • Three free agents the Canucks should target who aren't named Stamkos, Lucic or Eriksson. [Vancouver Sun]
  • The Canucks are going to have a tough time replacing Rollie Melanson as goalie coach. Candidates include Dan Cloutier, Bill Ranford, Alex Auld, and Eli Wilson, who has a connection to Willie Desjardins via Medicine Hat, so yeah, he’s getting hired. [The Province]
  • Five do’s and five don’ts for the Canucks off-season, according to Ben Kuzma. He thinks signing Loui Eriksson makes sense and trading down at the draft does not. [National Post]
  • It looks like Ryan Miller’s son, Bodhi, won’t be following in his footsteps as a goaltender: looks like he loves to score goals, but who knows if it will translate to the NHL? [Twitter]

  • With a few coaching positions opening up in the NHL lately, could the Canucks lose both Travis Green and Glen Gulutzan? [The Hockey Writers]
  • The Canucks aren’t worried about a potential expansion draft, as all their key players are protected. [Vancouver Sun]
  • Marc Crawford is back in the NHL as an assistant coach: should the Canucks consider bringing him back to Vancouver as a head coach sometime in the future? [Canucks Army]
  • Who should the Canucks draft at fifth overall: Pierre-Luc Dubois or Matthew Tkachuk? With the Oilers picking ahead of them, do they really have any say in the matter? [The Hockey Writers]
