The PITB 2018 NHL Trade Deadline Open Thread Extravaganza!

The Canucks might do something!

Like most NHL trade deadlines, nothing is happening early in the morning. TSN and Sportsnet begin their coverage at an ungodly hour — 5 AM Pacific, which is admittedly an ordinary working hour of 8 AM in the East — but so little happens that their shows become all filler, no killer until around 9:30 or 10:00 AM on the best coast.

The trade deadline is 3 PM Eastern, so noon Pacific, so trades will start filing in pretty soon. The Canucks are expected to be mildly active, in that they'll likely find a taker for Thomas Vanek, but are not actively shopping anyone else.

That's a problem, certainly, but we'll deal with the fallout of their inactivity if and when it comes. Until then, try to remain optimistic.

Surprisingly, one trade has already come in, though the trade itself wasn't a surprise. The Ottawa Senators flipped Ian Cole, who they had just acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins, to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a third-round pick and prospect Nick Moutrey.

The comment section is open. We'll discuss every trade as it happens, with Canucks trades getting their own article.
