B.C. confirms 357 new cases of COVID-19, for total of 140,953

There are now 140,953 cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in B.C. after health officials announced 357 new cases Thursday (May 20).

There are now 140,953 cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in B.C. after health officials announced 357 new cases Thursday (May 20).

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports that there have been 80 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 210 in the Fraser Health region, 12 in the Island Health region, 33 in the Interior Health region, 22 in the Northern Health Region and no new cases in people who reside outside of Canada.

There is no update on the variants of concern in the province. 

There have been three new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 1661 deaths from the virus.

There has been one new outbreak in the Fraser Health Authority at the Chartwell Carlton Care Residence.

There are 4,636 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. 

Of the active cases, 331 individuals are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 113 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

2,687,360 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C. Over 58 per cent of eligible adults have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in B.C.
