Grocery and drug store chains operating in the Lower Mainland and across British Columbia have reported several new employee coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the past few days.
Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of retail chains Shoppers Drug Mart and Real Canadian Superstore provided updates to its COVID-19 employee case listings on March 30 and 31, indicating the following store and case information:
- Real Canadian Superstore, 32136 Lougheed Highway, Mission: The last day the team member worked was on March 27.
- Real Canadian Superstore, 2855 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford: The last day the team member worked was on March 26.
- Real Canadian Superstore, 333 Seymour Blvd, North Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on March 27.
- Shoppers Drug Mart, 5000 Canoe Pass Way, Tsawwassen First Nation: The last day the team member worked was on March 23.
- Shoppers Drug Mart, 7538 120th Street, Surrey: The last day the team member worked was on March 25.
The national retailer also reported employee coronavirus cases among staff at its stores elsewhere in B.C. in West Kelowna and Victoria.
Currently, Loblaw lists 25 instances of store worker COVID-19 test-positive cases from locations in the province.
No new cases reported by T & T or Sobeys-owned stores
Loblaw-owned T & T Supermarket posts employee case updates on its website, however, the company has not had a case to report in British Columbia in the last two weeks.
Meanwhile, Sobeys Inc, which operates familiar B.C. chains like Safeway, Thrifty Foods, and FreshCo, has not added to its online COVID-19 case tracker in the last couple of days. Previously, the most recent store worker case was that of an employee from its Thrifty Foods location on Edgemont in North Vancouver, reported March 27 with a last day worked of March 26.
None of the above-listed stores are considered COVID-19 public exposure sites by Fraser Health or Vancouver Coastal Health.
