Several more employees at major Canadian grocery and drug stores in Metro Vancouver have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of retailers Shoppers Drug Mart, Real Canadian Superstore, and City Market, provided updates to its COVID-19 employee case listings on March 22 and 23, indicating the following:

  • Real Canadian Superstore, 8195 - 120th Street, Delta: The last day each of the three infected team members worked was on March 16, March 17 and March 18.
  • Real Canadian Superstore, 7550 King George Boulevard, Surrey: Multiple team members have tested positive. No last day worked provided.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 22441 Dewdney Trunk Rd, 102 Maple Ridge: The last day the team member worked was on March 19.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 11939 240th Street, Maple Ridge: The last day the team member worked was on March 20.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 8180 No 2 Rd, Unit 152, Richmond: The last day the team member worked was on March 13.
  • Park Royal City Market, 845 Park Royal North, West Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on March 18.

None of the locations are listed as potential COVID-19 public exposure sites by Fraser Health or Vancouver Coastal Health.

Loblaw says they share updates about test-positive COVID cases in their stores in order to maintain transparency.

"In these cases, we work closely with public health and follow their guidance to ensure proper notification of close contacts and required cleaning and sanitization in our stores," notes the company.

When there are employee virus cases, Loblaw notes: “Generally, the risk to our customers remains low, due to the physical distancing and sanitization measures that have been in place in our stores for months."

Other major grocery stores operating in the region report cases

Loblaw-owned T & T Supermarket posts employee case updates on its website, however, the company has not had a case to report in British Columbia in the last two weeks.

Sobeys Inc, which operates stores like Safeway and Thrifty Foods, updated its B.C. coronavirus employee case tracker this week to include the following new cases in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley:

  • Thrifty Foods - 170 Brew St. Port Moody: The last day the employee worked was on March 16
  • Safeway - 45610 Luckakuck Way, Chilliwack: The last day the employee worked was on March 16
  • Thrifty Foods - 11895 226 St. Maple Ridge: The last day the employee worked was on March 15

Fraser Health does not consider these stores COVID-19 exposure locations.
