We’ve heard of animals living in shelters for long periods of time, but none comes close to the 12 years Ariel has spent with the Canadian Animal Rescue & Extended Shelter in Langley. And, though staff and volunteers at C.A.R.E.S. lavish this girl with loads of love and attention while she waits, everyone feels it is high time she found her forever home.
“Our darling 17-year-old Ariel has been a C.A.R.E.S. kitty for 12 years now! Twelve years!” says C.A.R.E.S. director Allison Burton. “To put it in perspective, that is the year that Hurricane Katrina hit.”
Burton explains that Ariel arrived at the shelter in 2005 after her owner was, tragically, killed in a car accident. While her roommate was quickly adopted by family friends, poor Ariel was, for some reason, surrendered, and has been hoping to find her own happy ending ever since. “Ariel was in foster care for the last two years but was recently returned to the shelter when it was discovered that she now has liver and kidney issues,” Burton says. “Our senior girl is also deaf, which is a common occurrence in older cats, but she still has lots of energy. She loves to play with her toys and snuggle in bed at night with her human. We would love to find this darling a foster home for the rest of her years. We guarantee she will provide lots of purrs and cuddles in exchange.”
