When we told Kid Carson that he had won Best Radio Personality in our Best of the City poll for the second year in a row, his first reaction was to want to give something back to his fans.
An open book on the radio, his life at home is much more private. But Carson offered to open up his newly built home studio the public and to our cameras for the very first time, to show his listeners a little sneak peek behind the scenes.
The studio came as a kit and took two weeks to put together.
When I came down and I saw the truck I started getting anxiety! They delivered it outside in three giant skids, and neighbours were coming out wondering, 'What is this?' It took us the entire day to get the boxes up.They were thin but they were like cast iron or something, he laughs.
Taking over what was formerly a small bedroom in the sprawling condo he shares with fiancée Hanan Arabatlian, nine-year-old stepdaughter Paris, and three-month-old son Axl, the now-soundproof room does triple duty as a state-of-the-art man cave, broadcast booth and media room for the whole family.
Of the cost, Carson jokes that he got permission to build it before they were expecting Axl.
