Browns Restaurant Group (best known locally for Browns Socialhouse) is looking to up its culinary game and, as a first step, has brought onboard a trio of new chefs: Kristian Eligh (former culinary director for Hawksworth), Damon Campbell (former executive chef at Bosk in the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto) and Michael Steh (former executive chef for Chase Hospitality Group in Toronto).

Acclaimed catering company Culinary Capers has announced the appointment of Stewart Boyles as its new executive chef. Boyles previously worked at Michelin-starred restaurants in Scotland, as well as locally at Hawksworth.

Safety alert: If you’ve shopped at Foody World in Richmond in the past few months, be aware that several people have become ill (and one person has died) as a result of Listeria in some of its products. Vancouver Coastal Health is advising the public to throw away any products purchased since July of this year.

Throughout November, Café Medina, which normally does not accept reservations, will allow customers to reserve a table for two to six people in one of three time slots (10am, 11:30am and 1pm) any day in exchange for a $25 donation to the Movember Foundation, which benefits various men’s health issues. On Monday, Nov. 7, Zest Japanese Cuisine hosts a reception and dinner with the owner and winemaker from René Geoffroy and Vilmart et Cie, two legendary producers of Grower Champagne. The multi-course meal will, of course, be paired with various wines. Tickets $180. ZestJapanese.com

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar is extending its Sunday Supper series into fall with a new series of Pig and Pinot events. The nose-to-tail family-style dinners include dishes such as pork belly porchetta, confit and glazed pig’s head, chipotle-spiced pig tails, crunchy pig ears and more, along with sides, accompaniments and desserts. Optional Pinot pairings for each course are also available. The dinners take place Nov. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Tickets $52 per person (minimum two guests) or $82 per person with wine pairings. It's not even November yet, but Gastown’s acclaimed Bauhaus is already thinking ahead to Christmas Eve, when its kitchen will be turning out a special four-course menu that includes butter-poached lobster, cod, braised beef with potato ravioli, and a nougat parfait. Tickets $100 per person.

Rosewood Hotel Georgia is extending the annual lifespan of Reflections, its summer garden patio. The space will be transformed into a festive winter terrace, with an al fresco bar and lounge.
