Royal Dinette, chef David Gunawan’s latest venture in partnership with The Donnelly Group, is now officially open for farm-to-table dining in the heart of the financial district at 905 Dunsmuir in Blackbird Public House. The sixth annual Tomato Festival is back for the month of August at Provence Restaurants in Point Grey and Yaletown. Each restaurant has a different three-course menu featuring local heirloom varieties. Provence Mediterranean Grill’s $45 menu includes an appetizer trio of tomato tarte, caprese salad, and chilled tomato cappuccino, as well as beef tenderloin with bacon-tomato marlmalade, and lobster papardelle with oven-dried cherry tomatoes, and tomato and rhubarb panna cotta. Marinaside’s $53 menu includes crab-stuffed tomato, tomato-nectarine salad, halibut puttanesca, and Lois Lake steelhead and prawn with yellow tomato and warm vegetable salad, as well as dessert. The third annual Thirty Days of IPA is back at all Donnelly Pubs starting Aug. 1. While craft beer trends come and go, India Pale Ale, better known as IPA, remains the signature style of Pacific Northwest craft beer culture. Each day from Aug. 1- 30, a different IPA will be tapped at one of eight Donnelly Group pubs across Vancouver. The festival kicks off 11:30AM on Aug. 1 at BC’s oldest pub, The Lamplighter in Gastown. On August 5, Pidgin chef Shin Suzuki welcomes guest chef Scott Dolich of Portland’s Park Kitchen and The Bent Brick for a special collaborative dinner. The menu will feature eight courses, each paired with a cocktail or glass of wine. The Distillery School, an intensive, five-day, hands-on program geared to individuals looking to start up their own distillery will open in September at North Vancouver’s Sons of Vancouver Distillery.
