Michael Christiansen, commis at The Pear Tree and winner of the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship, has won the gold medal at the 2015 International Young Chefs Competition, held in Budapest, Hungary, and hosted by La Chaine des Rôtisseurs. Change is in the air: Jacob Deacon Evans, executive chef at Supermarine, left as of last week, and is to be replaced by Jesse Grasso, erstwhile chef at The Black Hoof in Toronto. Grasso is originally from BC and formerly worked for Supermarine owner James Iranzad at Abigail's Party. Grasso will also be in charge of menu redevelopment at Wildebeest and Bufala. No word yet on where Deacon Evans will end up, but we wish him well and hope to see him in a local kitchen soon. Expect a new menu at Supermarine from Grasso in the next couple of weeks.
