Cin Cin’s popular terrace is now a year-round dining spot, thanks to extensive remodelling, including a retractable awning system, 6,000-watt infrared heaters, dropdown shades and gables, and anti-drip gutter system, and clear vinyl fabric windows. The 50-seat space will be open for regular and private dining throughout the year.
On Jan. 18 at 6pm, Kris Barnholden of Latab will be hosting the first Colab dinner with Brian Luptak (sous chef, Acorn), Kylie Bartlett (Odd Society Spirits) and Camille Flanjak (MuseumEats). The evening will feature four dishes from Barnholden, four dishes from Luptak, and three cocktails from Bartlett, along with an engaging conversation on food trends in Vancouver, with a nod toward sustainability, nutrition, localism, food sovereignty, social justice, and hedonism. Colab, created by Barnholden and Flanjak, is a collaborative food event that will happen on the third Monday of every month. Dishes are all available à la carte.
Barbara-Jo’s Books to Cooks will be hosting a special evening with famed cookbook author Bonnie Stern on Jan. 14 at the shop. Stern will be talking about her culinary career, and drinks and refreshments will be served. Tickets $35.
On Jan. 24, The Acorn and Odd Society Spirits will be presenting a Distiller’s Dinner. The five-course tasting menu, with cocktail pairings, will focus on seasonal, vegetable-forward dishes. Tickets $90 including tax.
On Jan. 27, executive chef Stefan Hartmann of Bauhaus will be hosting an incredible collaborative dinner with Chef Pino Posteraro of Cioppino’s. The German-Mediterranean feast will include eight courses (four from each chef). Tickets are $95.
On Jan. 29 and 30, in celebration of the eighth annual Chinese Restaurant Awards, Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver and Market by Jean-Georges present East Meets West, an epicurean feast prepared by Michelin-starred chefs from Shangri-La Hotel, Paris, Christophe Moret and Samuel Lee Sum. They will be joined by Ken Nakano of Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver, and master pastry chef Thomas Haas. The seven-course dinner will present the best of French, Cantonese and West Coast cuisine. Tickets for tables of five are $2,500.
Edible Canada is launching its 2016 dinner series, The Canadian Table, this February. Each dinner is $110 and features a different culture or region that is representative of the multicultural nature of Canada. Cuisines include Japanese, Chinese, Peruvian, Lebanese, French Canadian, First Nations, Italian and Indian.
49th Parallel Coffee Roasters is taking part in this year’s Hot Chocolate Festival with two new hot chocolate blends: The Bee’s Knees, a lavender-infused dark chocolate with steamed milk, served with a honey marshmallow and two lavender-honey biscotti dipped in white chocolate ($6); and the Saturday Nut Fever, a Gianduja hot chocolate with steamed milk, served with two hazelnut Amaretti cookies and a housemade hazelnut truffle. Combine with a doughnut from Lucky’s Doughnuts for $6.50.
