City Market comes to Arbutus; Crown Royal earns top whisky honours; Supermarine opens for brunch

Loblaws City Market has opened at 3185 Arbutus, in the old Ridge Theatre (and later Meinhardt’s) location. The 21,000 square foot location features a fresh juice station, a T&T sushi bar, a 10-foot-high cheese wall with 300 varieties of cheese from around the world, a patisserie, and grab-and-go meals.

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar will be offering a special Christmas Day service, with both brunch and dinner four-course menus, each for $85 per person. Brunch items include crème brulée French toast, clam chowder, crispy chicken wings and the Korean fried chicken rice bowl. Dinner highlights include porchetta, caramelized scallop, slow-roasted turkey, beef cheek papardelle, and more. 

Bauhaus is offering a holiday goose prix fixe menu for four people. Dinner includes veal consommé, whole goose with red cabbage, dumplings, and chestnut puree, and plum cake with cinnamon and glühwein punch meringue for dessert. Your goose is ordered fresh when you make your reservation. $85 for three courses. 

Supermarine is now open for weekend brunch Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, 9:30am-2pm. The menu focuses on more meatier dishes such as shakshuka, fried eggs over shrimp and grits, and braised duck benedict. 

Library Square public house and Parallel 49 Brewing Company have partnered to create the “12 Taps of Christmas.” The Advent calendar-style event will see a different surprise beer being featured every odd day in December until Christmas, with pints going for $5.
