Eugene Choo debuts capsule collection

In this season’s Eugene Choo fall/winter 2015 collection designer Heather Young uses denim to make an interchangeable wardrobe consisting of a Japanese-inspired task jacket, high-waisted cropped pants, and a reissue of last season's sold-out Perfect skirt. The line features simple, crisp pieces meant to blend seamlessly into a woman's existing wardrobe.

Nordstrom gala raises $420K for charity

Nordstrom’s sold-out fashion show and gala raised $420,000 for local charities: BC Children's Hospital Foundation, BC Women's Hospital and Health Center Foundation, Covenant House Vancouver, and the Vancouver Art Gallery. More than 2,200 guests attended the affair, with co-chairs Kathleen S. Bartels, Jillian Harris, Jill Krop, Judy Leung, Jason Sarai and Tamara Taggart. actresses Diana Bang and Camilla Belle, models Coco Rocha, Amber Valletta and Karolina Kurkova, actor Zachary Quinto, and fourth-generation Nordstrom family members were among the crowd for the event that included a stunning runway show featuring 85 looks from top designers and an in-store gala and shopping event. The store officially opened its doors to lined up shoppers on Friday. 

A return to form at J.Crew

J.Crew’s spring/summer 2016 collection will definitely brighten up the season. The men’s and women’s collections debuted last week at the brand’s eighth New York Fashion Week presentation. The show featured a return to form with J.Crew standards such as stripes, chambray, woven shirting fabrics, “casual-ized” sequins, ginghams, and fine tailoring. While the full impact of J.Crew’s newly appointed womenswear designer, Somsack Sikhounmuong, will not be seen until fall/winter 2016, he worked alongside of the women’s design team to fine-tune this collection during this transitional season. 

Fall at Holts

Holt Renfrew Vancouver held an in-store fashion show last week, where Lisa Tant, Holt’s vice-president of exclusive service, weighed in on the season’s biggest trends, including loose fits, bold graphics, men’s inspired tailoring, utilitarian chic, new romantics, and winter white. The show pulled from more than 40 of the world’s leading brands that are exclusive to Holts, which is also home to 19 Canadian brands. This fall season, Holt Renfrew introduces new designers to Canada with brands such as Cédric Charlier for womenswear, Mansur Gavriel for handbags, Rene Caovillafor footwear, Haider Ackermann and Thom Browne for menswear. Holt’s also carries H Project, which supports culture, craft and artisans from around the world.

Roksanda at The Room

Etsy: Made in Canada market returns

On Saturday, Sept. 26, 33 Canadian cities will host a one-day marketplace bringing together Etsy sellers and communities in celebration of the country’s maker movement. For the second year in a row, UBC Robson Square (800 Robson) will play host to Vancouver’s Etsy: Made in Canada event, featuring popular local Etsy sellers showcasing their handmade and vintage goods. Entry for this event is free.
