If your family includes Barbie fans, you may want to reconsider any out-of-town getaways planned for the B.C. Day long weekend.
The Barbie Mobile Tour visits Playland at the PNE this weekend when it makes its final stop on a North American Tour. Families can expect "3,500 square feet of pure Barbie" according to promoters, and girls of all ages can live out their Barbie dreams with an all-access pass into the dolls glittering world. The event is free with admission to Playland and runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 2 to 4. Playland day passes cost $29.50 for adults and $21.75 for kids over three.
Brought into the world on March 9, 1959, Barbie is now 54 and has passed through the lives of many girls, women, moms and grandmas. After 41 years of living large in her dream home in Malibu, Barbie is now moving to a new abode and Mattel invites fans to help her decide where to build her next pink palace.
The tour is designed to be an interactive experience where kids can indulge their fashion fantasies on a "dolltastic" runway, create interior design concepts on a digital mood board and build a custome home using Mega blocks.
Girls, like myself, who love to dress up and role play will be put in the spotlight once they step foot on the runway. With wardrobe options galore, girls can strut and pose for their very own Vogue moment. Before hitting the runway, aspiring models can pose in front of a mirror for a glamour shot. When the photograph develops, Barbie will be smiling beside the real life subject.
Kids can also design an interior décor for Barbie. By making decorating choices like paint colours, chandeliers and wall paper, each child experiences the creative process and will receive a copy of the completed design.
The Mega blocks tent is dedicated to the building phase of Barbies home. Using blocks as a foundation, children can create and construct their very own room within Barbies home, which they can take away to play with again.
My sons may just have to tag along while I join in the fun with my nieces. Barbie moms through the generations will relate. Prepare to see pink this weekend when the Barbie Mobile Tour hits town.
