Fireworks photos: Vancouverites capture magic of Celebration of Light

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the fireworks yet, these photos might convince you to go to the last show

The Celebration of Light fireworks show,

Love was certainly in the air last night as the sky lit up with colour for the second Honda Celebration of Light fireworks display.

Once again huge crowds gathered at favourite spots – English Bay, Second Beach and Kitsilano (to name a few) – to gaze up at the sky and feel a little magic.

For the first time, the public was invited to vote on a theme for the fireworks and an overwhelming majority of Vancouverites chose “love.”

This year’s competing countries have already made sparks fly. South Africa kicked off the event with a dazzling display on Saturday and Sweden had crowds saying "ooh" and "aah" with a bright and beautiful display on Wednesday.

Now, it’s up to South Korea to impress crowds at the last show on Saturday, August 4.

The event is now in its 28th year and draws more than one million spectators over the three nights.

Lisa Beare, minister of tourism, arts and culture, said the event was a “summer highlight and huge draw for visitors.”

“The Honda Celebration of Light truly lights up the city, by bringing people together with those they love to enjoy a festival of music, food and culture throughout the day, leading up to the breath-taking fireworks each night,” she said.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the fireworks yet, these photos might convince you to go to the third show:

Here is my latest collaboration piece for the @twoheartsbeatstronger "Memories of Summer" prompt with @arpi7499, featuring gorgeous photography by @mynameisdawong! ✨✨✨✨✨ Two of us at different shores, Fascinating about summer chores, On one side, a festival that glows; The other, the sun, shining on the ploughs. The games of childhood; Busy streets, crowded places, there are just too many faces! It all stills, with a beautiful, polychromatic sunset. Here comes the warning, we're about to get started, about to get set; for a burst of twinkling lights, some, shattering into sparks, others, tumbling like a crimson waterfall. The crowd's blissful reaction, surrounding us all, mixed with the explosive sound that hits your chest; I will remember these memories fondly, and carry them burried deep inside my breast. Summertime; I think of you fondly. ✨✨✨✨✨ #poetryfromtheheart #natureinspired #wordswag #womenwhowrite #herheartpoetry #wordswithqeens #communityofpoetry #worldofpoets #artlixerpoetry #wordsmith #writerscommunity #acclaimedwod #bymepoetry #poetryisnotdead #poetryporn #poetsdaily #herheartsart1 #twoheartsbeat #twoheartsbeatstronger #kaleidoscopicpoetry #loveislove #genreurbanarts #writerscommunity #spilledpoetry #isheavenoffthetable #genreurbanarts #photooftheday #photographicart #englishbayfireworks #celebrationoflight #sunsetphotos #englishbaybeach
