It all comes together at the Vancouver Home + Design Show. From Oct. 19-22, one of the city's most anticipated design events returns to share insider info on the how-tos for stylish-meets-approachable design and décor. This year the show returns to the Vancouver Convention Centre with some of the leading experts on chic living. With so many stellar events taking place over the course of the show, I've nailed down my top five must-see sights for the weekend.

1. Ultimate Upcycle Challenge: Take A Seat presented by Rust-Oleum
Do-gooders, take note! 14 of Vancouver’s top media personalities, designers and tastemakers have been recruited to turn drab into fab for a cause. Armed with a black box of products from Rust-Oleum and a small design budget, each participant will up-cycle a preloved piece from ReStore into a swoon-worthy seat that’s fit for a second chance at love. Bid on your favourite seat at our silent auction (100 per cent of proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver) and rest easy knowing you’ve made a difference by going green and giving back. It’s design, with a conscience.

2. Main Stage presented by the Vancouver Sun; furnished by Urban Barn
Prepare yourself for a crash course in creating the ultimate pad, straight from the experts on the Main Stage. Get the goods from must-see presenters including W Network’s Cheryl Torrenueva, Jillian Harris and Todd Talbot, HGTV’s Samantha Pynn, regular Citytv Cityline guest expert Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault and Parker Barrow design duo Janette Ewen and Jef Hancock. By the end of it all, you’re certain to have everything you need to live and entertain in equal style – design know-how included.

3. The BC Hydro Dream Home presented by BC Hydro Power Smart, designed by Jamie Banfield Design
An energy efficient home can also be a stylish one! Designer Jamie Banfield of Jamie Banfield Design will create the ultimate dream house combining contemporary design and energy conservation. Scope out the Dream Home to learn pro-approved yet easy ways to lower your energy bills while creating an eye pleasing living space. It's official, energy efficiency can fit into any space.
4. The Ottoman Empire presented by the Vancouver Sun
Sitting room in need of a centrepiece? Ottomans do double duty thanks to on-trend trays that take them from footrest to coffee table in one fell swoop – saving precious square footage in the process. Featuring styles ranging from midcentury modern to rustic contemporary and everything in between, this homage to high design and functionality will appeal to both homeowners and renters of all tastes.

Empty wall space is no match for the wares at M(art)ket. Shop this curated collection of eye-catching canvases, prints and photographs for sale by the city’s top talent and add a little wall candy to your home.
