Montreal menswear line looks to LA with new collab

Calling all sharp dressed men. Frank & Oak have collaborated with the LA-based menswear brand CWST on a seven-piece capsule collection consisting of laid-back hoodies, shorts, and T-shirts, available now at the Vancouver Frank & Oak store and online at frankandoak.com. The collection blends the effortless, relaxed vibe of CWST with the clean, modern aesthetic of Canadian brand Frank & Oak. Inspired by the simplicity of the West Coast lifestyle, the Frank & Oak x CWST collection features premium European and Japanese fabrics – in a colour palette ranging from dusty sage to heather grays – sourced from top mills around the world.

Hey Jude hosts designer

Hey Jude, which specializes in curated vintage and local artisan jewelry, will be hosting the latest collection of hand-sewn, minimalist separates by Vancouver-based designer Melissa Araujo on March 1. The collection will be available exclusively for three weeks until March 20, which up until now has only been available online or in European boutiques.  A launch event will take place at the shop on Saturday, March 5, from 7 to 11pm and is open to the public.

Hair line that cares

Join 400 dynamic influencers and business leaders, including One Girl Can's Founder, and CEO of AG Hair, Lotte Davis, for the second annual #IWant2Be fundraiser on Thursday, April 21, at 6pm, at The Imperial in Vancouver (319 Main Street). Local TV personality Fiona Forbes will MC the evening, made possible by presenting sponsor TD Bank, which will include a silent auction with contributions from Vancouver's top brands and a live auction of unique experiences, including two African safaris in Kenya and South Africa. Guests will enjoy a complimentary drink and appetizers from No Fixed Address Social Catering, and a gift bag of AG Hair products worth $68 as a thank you for attending. Tickets are $65 and are available for purchase online. Anyone unable to attend the event can still support by donating funds to purchase necessities for One Girl Can students, including a mattress, bunk bed, a toilet or a shower stall. Visit eventbrite.ca/e/iwant2be-tickets to purchase tickets or make a donation.

Prom events at HBC

With the high school year half over and post-graduate applications submitted, all eyes are on prom 2016. Just in time for the dress hunt, Hudson’s Bay will launch curated prom collections for millennial girls at the end this month. In celebration of this launch, Hudson’s Bay is hosting a Prep for Prom in-store event at 23 locations nationally (including Oakridge) from 2 to 4pm on March 5. These events will include prom fashion shows modelled by local high school students. Guests will get to enjoy 20 per cent off women’s and men’s regular priced prom fashions and accessories for the day. For a chance to join the #HBpromsquad and model the latest prom looks in these local fashion shows, click on the Hudson’s Bay Facebook page for more details. Girls and guys across Canada are open to apply and those selected to model in the show will be automatically entered in a national contest to win an entire prom look from head to toe.

Kit and Ace lays off staff

Kit and Ace, the clothing chain launched by the family of Lululemon founder Chip Wilson, has laid off 35 people (about 10 per cent of its head office staff) in a corporate restructuring. “Like other tech start-ups, we are in a constant pursuit of learning, improving and adjusting our strategy,” interim CEO Paul Wilson wrote in an emailed statement to the Westender’s sister publication, Business in Vancouver. The company is currently on the hunt for a new CEO, after letting go of previous CEO, Darrell Kopke late last year. Despite the staff cuts, the company continues its global expansion, according to various media reports.
