Before making the move to East Van, Shearman trained with Bruno Marti at his famed Ladner restaurant, La Belle Auberge. Dovetailing with the new appointment are new menu items, including local ingredients from Au Petit Chavignols investment in Strathconas SoleFood Farm (845 E. South Granvilles West Restaurant is hosting a cocktail-inspired supper on Apr. 25. Tickets are $85 per person (plus tax and gratuity), and will include a reception followed by five courses à la chef David Gunawan. The upcoming and much-anticipated Hawksworth Restaurant in the Rosewood Hotel Georgia (due this May) has announced the hiring of sommelier Terry Threlfall as wine director. Threlfall was the first-ever Canadian sommelier to become a regular panelist for Decanter magazine. He has also judged the Decanter World Wine Awards and just finished his 11th stint as Festival Sommelier at the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival (801 West Georgia, RosewoodHotelGeorgia.com/dining).
