Beef, beer and chili. The trifecta of a perfect festival experience.
And thus marks the return of the Gastown BBQ & Chili Festival on Saturday August 30th and Sunday August 31st, 2014. This year, 12 neighbourhood restaurants will compete in an outdoor cookout, offering the best in barbecued pork ribs, chicken wings, beef brisket, and more.
The third annual event will take place along the 200 block of Carrall Street between Water and Cordova, lined with food vendors, BBQs, picnic tables and…wait for it…a beer stand! Yes, the loosening of BC’s liquor laws are finally allowing for the consumption of BBQ and beer, together, on public Vancouver streets. Let’s rejoice.
Other highlights include a wing-eating contest, a pig roast and a special appearance by Tampa Bay Lightening defenseman Jason Garrison, who we imagine will be gorging himself with every kind of meat available. Because, y’know, athletes have big appetites?
Samples of barbecue and chili will be sold to the public, with proceeds benefiting Athletics for Kids, a non-profit that provides financial aid to help children throughout the province participate in organized sports.
