In addition to our feature on Eco Fashion Week and how it ties in with local businesses, we thought we'd get to know the three year old show:
This April will be the sixth edition
The first season was in Olympic Village at the False Creek Rec Centre. The second at the Salt Building. The third was in Gastown at Storyeum. Every show since then has called Robson Square home
Kim Cathers, Nicole Bridger and Adhesif have shown the most times. SVENKS from Sweden is showing for a second time
Vancouver's Evan Ducharme is premiering his first collection at EFW. Vancouver brand Elroy is also making its highly anticipated first EFW appearance
EFW has the 68 lb Challenge, where Kim Cathers chooses 68 lbs of textiles and clothing from Value Village (this year men's suits and sweaters) and turns it into a 30-outfit women's collection
There are seminars on everything from green business solutions to H&M to trend forecasting from WSGN the world's largest trend agency
There are very strict guidelines on who can participate. This show, there will be more than 20 designers
What to expect from....
Nicole Bridger: "I show in-season now, so SS13 that you can buy from the store. I like to do something different. The last show we did was at the Vogue, and we had a 30-minute, totally choreographed contemporary dance performance. The SS13 collection we're launched is called BE about being true to yourself and all the different facets of your life. I think when we feel threatened or unsafe, we go into these modes that aren't really us. So learning how to come back with gentle love and be in that place. I'm doing it at my friend's new pub, Portside (7 Alexander). It's going to be an installation type show, with models standing on crates. And the models aren't going to be models, but I don't want to give too much away!"
Kim Cathers: "A 30-piece women's collection made entirely from mens suits and sweaters (for the 68 lb Challenge)! Its FW 2014 and I am VERY excited to show off a whole whack of new designs and innovations! You can check out last seasons video on vimeo."
Adhesif Clothing: "This show is particularly exciting for me as this will be the first show Adhesif Clothing has ever had with Eco fashion Week that is showcasing brand new men's designs! Overall, the Fall-Winter 2013 collection has a 1920's inspired style with an edgy twist. I'm calling it Moody Romantic.
