We recently had the chance to attend Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim (and enjoy a really nice stay at the Homewood Suites, to boot). Known as the "Vegas" of health trade shows, it’s not open to the public, and features thousands of brands (think aisle upon aisle of food, supplements and samples for the taking and tasting). It’s also the place to scout new food trends and products and, on that note, here’s a few of our buzziest finds (NB: While some of these products may not be available nationwide, stay tuned! We reached out to all, with word they will be hitting Canadian shelves soon).
for gut health. Simply add a scoop of this probiotic/prebiotic formula from Ora Organic to any liquid; its raspberry taste is spot-on sweet and refreshing. Snack wise, reach for these Farmhouse Culture chips made from sauerkraut, nature’s potent probiotic food (talk about a gut-changer of the most addictive kind).
turmeric to go. Developed by famous surfer Laird Hamilton, this superfood creamer takes your morning coffee to turmeric-rich, super-power levels (six-pack abs, hopefully, too). And, while you're vegging in front of the tube, organic, gluten-free Living Intentions Activated Popcorn is what spicy, savoury dreams of made of—i.e., no portion control required.
plant based. Made from cashews with no soy or sketchy ingredients, this line of dairy-free cheese will blow your—vegan or not—taste buds off. Plus, we found the first vegan burger that looks, cooks and tastes like the meaty-real-thing (oh, and Brendan Brazier helped create it). Ridiculous.
paleo hacks. Paleo peeps who love toast, rejoice! These super-low carb English muffins are made from non-GMO eggs and almond flour and come in a variety of flavours. More good news: dessert is no longer strictly off limits, either, thanks to these vanilla shortbread bars that taste decadently good, despite just 2 grams of sugar per bar.
nutty stuff. How to take your Americano to heavenly heights? Add some nut-based creamer that’s huge on flavour, free of additives and sugar and Whole 30 approved, too. We're also loving this teen-created line of nut butters blended with coconut, pure honey or strawberries ... oh my.
