Lifetime: Diva on a dime

There are thrift stores — and then there are thrift stores.

While Kerrisdale is home to many high-end shops catering to wealthy Westsiders, it’s also the location of a thrift store offering gently-used, designer clothing at a fraction of what you’d pay new.

Even better, 100 per cent of profits from the Hospice Opportunity Boutique help support of the Vancouver Hospice Society and the end-of-life services it provides. The HOB, as it’s known, is packed full of brand-name fashions, shoes, bags and jewellery. Clothing sold at the HOB comes from donations from the affluent community. Clothing is then sorted and every item is washed and pressed or dry cleaned before hitting the floor, while jewellery is cleaned and repaired.

Lifetime once again called on the beautiful Carmen Ruiz y Laza, host of CarmenTV at JoyTV/Zoomer Media, to act as model. Carmen also put her fashionable style to good use and helped choose all of the outfits herself.

A small army of 84 volunteers ensures the HOB runs smoothly without a paid manager.

The HOB is located at 2236 West 41st Ave.
