Matchstick Coffee Roasters has officially opened their newest location at 4811 Main Street (at East 32nd Ave). Look for the same quality menu of baked goods, sandwiches and hearties as at their Fraser and Chinatown locations.
Glowbal at TELUS Garden has re-launched their weekend brunch menu. Complimentary mini doughnuts and fruit smoothie shooters are standard for each guest. Dishes include Green Eggs and Ham (spinach scrambled eggs and smoked ham with mini buttermilk scones), lobster Benedict, Belgian waffles with caramelized bananas and white chocolate mousse, stuffed French toast and a selection of brunch cocktails.
Chef Jefferson Alvarez of Orchard and the Sea has partnered with the owner of Epicurean Caffé Bistro in Kitsilano to offer a daily brunch menu from 9am to 5pm (baked goods will be available 7am-9am). The new venture will operate under the name Cacao Progessive Latin, after the native South American fruit. Stay tuned for dinner service a few nights each week to start down the road.
Space is still available at La Pentola’s Sunday Supper Series on Aug. 28, featuring local tomatoes. The menu includes a tomato cocktail, branzino crudo, heirloom tomato vinaigrette and buratta, zucchini flowers stuffed with prawn, crab and leek caramelle, pork ratolo, lamb and more. Tickets $65, with optional wine pairings an additional $45.
Top Drop, the two-day festival with a focus on sustainably-farmed terroir-driven wines, returns to Vancouver on Sept. 7 and 8. The main event is the grand tasting at Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown, featuring local and international wines, as well as ciders, beers, food and more. Stay tuned for updates on this year’s inaugural dinner series. Tickets for main event $69. Proceeds benefit the BC Hospitality Foundation.
On Sept. 12, the next installment of the Greasy Spoon dinner series at Save on Meats will feature Jackie Ellis of Beaucoup Bakery serving her take on diner fare in support of A Better Life Foundation. Tickets $95.
On Sept. 13, Chefs’ Table Society of BC, in partnership with the Yaletown BIA and the Streetfood Vancouver Society, will host the inaugural Chef Meets Truck in Yaletown. The collaborative event sees Vancouver restaurant chefs hop on board local food trucks to serve up unique dishes. Participating food trucks and chefs include Community Pizzeria with guest chef Angus An (Maenam), Fliptop Filipino Fusion with guest chef Vikram Vij (Vij’s), Roaming Dragon with guest chef Scott Jaeger (The Peartree), and more. Tickets are $69 and include food samples from all eight participating food trucks, as well as wine and beer samples from Nichol Vineyard, Lock and Worth Winery, and Brassneck Brewery. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
On Sept. 22, Gourmet Warehouse will be hosting a book-signing event with Lidia Bastianich, the acclaimed celebrity chef, cookbook author, TV personality and restarauteur, as well as co-founder of Eataly in New York. Tickets are $79 and include a copy of her latest book, a loot bag, two drink vouchers and 10 tasting stations hosted by Les Dames d’Escoffier, plus gelato from Bella Gelateria.
