New clothing line features Haida designs
Eco-designer Wendy Van Riesen of Dahlia Drive has collaborated with renowned Haida artist Reg Davidson on the Ravens, Eagles, Polka Dots clothing line, which features Davidson’s Raven Dancing silkscreen and Eagle Drum painting. The new collection, inspired by the Haida Gwaii landscapes and traditional colours used by Haida artists on their carvings, launches at a this week and can be found online at DahliaDrive.com.
New style for Native Shoes
The spring/summer 2016 collection from Vancouver’s Native Shoes is here, launching a new “Future Classic” into orbit – the all new Apollo XtraLite for both men and women. The ultra-light Apollo XL features a laser cut dynamic perforated upper, making it an even more breathable member of the Apollo family. A rejuvenated version of the classic microfibre Moc silhouette, the Apollo XL has all the attributes of the Apollo Moc: easy to slip on, shock absorbent EVA outsole, rubber toe and heel inserts, now with chiseled features. The Apollo Moc XL will be available this March at Plenty and Pacific Boarder.
Umbrella art
There’s probably nowhere else in the world that a stylish umbrella will get more use than in this town. Art lover Jonathan Bonder recently launched Pluvio Umbrella with the intention to make umbrellas that highlight and share the work of artists. Each design is limited to 200 umbrellas and is tagged with the edition number. Designs will not be restocked. Pluvio’s sell for $49 US and ship worldwide. For each Haiti: Beauty vs. Poverty umbrella sold, $5 is being donated to charity (Conservation International). Pluvio umbrellas are made with premium materials to provide a strong, durable product. Windstorm safe frames have a chrome and nickel coating. Pluvios are foldable and have a designed pouch with a strap.
Celebrity stylists at AG launch
Forget overdone hair, the team at AG Hair says 2016 is all about textured tresses that are perfectly imperfect. To get the look, the company recently launched Hair Texture, and to celebrate it’s hosting a #Hairgoals pop-up shop, open for one-day only on March 12, from 11am to 5pm at This Open Space's The Playground in Chinatown. The hair extravaganza will feature New York celebrity hair stylist Wesley O'Meara, whose list of clients includes Alexa Chung, Sarah Jessica Parker and Chloë Sevigny. New head at Hunter
Hunter recently announced that Vincent Wauters will take over as its chief executive officer, effective March 1. Wauters joins Hunter from Arc’teryx, where he was president of the Vancouver outdoor and lifestyle brand.
