Nordstrom hasn’t even opened yet and it’s already ingratiating itself with the local community. Last week, the mega-US fashion chain held a pre-gala party to kick off the first day of sales for its opening gala, which will be a fundraiser for four local charities: BC Children’s Hospital, BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, Covenant House Vancouver and Vancouver Art Gallery. Nordstrom will underwrite the gala so that 100 per cent of proceeds will benefit the organizations. The Sept. 16 gala will be two parts: a reception and runway fashion show and an in-store party. Tickets are $150 for the in-store party and $300 for the fashion show and in-store party. Plus, Vogue's international editor-at-large Hamish Bowles and West Coast director Lisa Love will be guests at the event. Nordstrom is set to open its first Vancouver store on Friday, Sept. 18 at 9:30am. To purchase tickets visit nordstromvangala.com, email [email protected] or call 604-800-9085. ca.nordstrom.com

Designer outlet mall opens

There’s another retail opening around the corner. McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport will be open for business on July 9. Coined the first designer outlet to serve the Metro Vancouver market, the centre is set to be a fashion lover's paradise, offering sought-after brands such as Missoni, Gucci, Fendi, Marc Jacobs, and Moschino, at discounted prices. Opening goes swimmingly

Nettle’s Tale Swimwear is a line of suits that encourages women of all shapes and sizes to enjoy their being and their body. To celebrate the launch of the line’s new Main Street location at 4301 Main, the team held a store opening that included the Strong Suit Challenge – a video featuring women enjoying their Nettle’s Tale swimsuits, which are made locally by Julia Church. Check out the video on Nettle Tale website at NettlesTale.com.

All that glitters
