Oakridge Centre has brought back Brown Paper Couture. Building on the excitement from last year, the stunning student display includes 26 hand-crafted paper creations inspired by famous fashion designers. Langara College Design Formation students recreated the iconic designer dresses, transforming modest materials, such as craft paper, cardboard, coffee filters, tape, thumbtacks, tissue, and string, into haute couture fashion. Hurry up and catch the stunning paper creations, which will be up until March 17.

Spring equinox at USED

Celebrate the first day of spring by shopping, eating, and listening to music from Daniel R. USED House of Vintage is having a spring equinox party with a huge vintage sale on Friday, March 20, from 7 to 11pm at 1008 Robson. Montreal Steamies will be there with poutine and hot dogs for hungry shoppers. As an added bonus, the after party will be at the Fox Cabaret with free admission for those who attend to the shopping event.

Calling all eco-friendly designers

Designer registration is now open for Vancouver’s premier eco-friendly fashion event, which takes place from April 19 to 24. Celebrating its eighth season, Eco Fashion Week (EFW) is informing and inspiring the fashion-conscious, and sustainable-minded, alike, in a way that harmonizes beauty and the environment. Local designers featured in past shows include Hey Jude, Obakki, Young Oak, Ghazal Elhaei, and Jerome Insorio.

Design Lab takes shape

Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor will launch Design Lab Lord & Taylor, a new private, young contemporary brand for style-conscious millennials. The new collection, available in Spring 2015, will offer the latest apparel and footwear trends at accessible prices (average price point will be $75) and will launch exclusively in 57 Hudson’s Bay stores in Canada.

Starbucks working on its food

More than 70 percent of Starbucks Canada cafes have transformed their pastry cases with the Canadian debut of a brand new assortment of classic French-inspired, artisanal pastries from La Boulange Bakery, which, according to the company, represents a significant next step in its journey to bring authentic and delicious food to customers, who expect food that is free from artificial dyes and flavours. Founded by baker and chef Pascal Rigo, La Boulange was shaped by taking French baking traditions and developing homemade specialties.
