Syrain designer launches pop-up
Vancouver-based accessories designer Mona Sultan is hosting a pop-up designer fundraiser on Nov. 21, from 4 to 8pm at Eastwood Cycle Sanctuary, 154 Hastings, to raise funds towards the Syrian refugee crisis. The event, called From Vancouver with Love, will feature more than 25 local designers. Attendees can holiday shop in good conscious as proceeds from the event will be donated to the Karam Foundation, which helps refugees located in camps across the Middle East. The funds raised from the event will go towards a Back to School Program, which focuses on bringing the 2.8 million Syrian children back to school, and will also go towards sponsoring Syrian families in refugee camps located in Turkey ($100 a month provides a family with basic necessities such as food, shelter, and winter relief). Sultan is Syrian born and has family still living in Damascus. She has supported the crisis through online sales of her line the past few years, but as the crisis has escalated, she wanted to do more. Brands that have already generously committed to help with the sale include One of a Few, Melanie Auld, Reassembly, C4 with Susie Wall, Woodlot, Lloyd & Wolf, Leuie, Goodge Place, and Claudia Schulz.
