Thursday, July 30

Discotech It’s an homage to all the glitter and dancing you can imagine as DJ Nick Bertossi and the Go Go Boys keep the floor goin’. Don’t miss pop artist Jonathan Dylan performing his new single, “I Just Wanna Dance” at 10:15. 10pm on July 30 at Junction (1138 Davie St.). Cover is $5.

 

SISTER MARY’S A DYKE?! Toronto-based playwright Flerida Pena presents the story of Abby, a Catholic school girl who discovers that not everything is as it seems at Crown of Thorns Academy in this coming-of-age, coming out comedy featuring actor/musician Kim Villagante, directed by Jan Derbyshire, as part of the Queer Arts Festival. 7:30pm at Roundhouse Community Centre. Friday, July 31

 

Pride Dance Party Before, during or after the Davie Street Block Party hit up the dance floor as DJ Mike Bermudez keeps it poppin’ with the Go Go Guys until so late, it’s early! 1pm on July 31 at Pumpjack Pub (1167 Davie St.). Patio open til 10pm. Cover is $7.

 

QSONG WORKSHOP Queer Songwriters of a New Generation is an eleven-week songwriting workshop for queer, trans*, and allied youth to develop your songwriting chops, led by queer singer/songwriter Sarah Wheeler with guest appearances by some of Canada’s top queer artists. Like all QAF youth workshops, it’s free! 5-7pm at Roundhouse Community Centre.

 

Hot & Wet The sexiest ship to ever cruise the Strait returns for its annual Pride sailing on the MV Britannia with the loveliest cargo to ever ply the seven seas. Juicy beats, re-mixed with beautiful views on three levels, and the spin of dance-lights against the mountains sunset. The original pride cruise event for hundreds of women is the biggest and best yet with sounds from DJ Tracey D, and as always, all genders welcome. GENDERFEST INTROVERT CHILL MINGLER It’s the introvert’s way to kick off the rowdy weekend in a scent-reduced, and fully wheelchair accessible venue, as part of the Queer Arts Festival. 7:30-10pm at Exhibition Hall (Roundhouse Community Centre). Admission by donation.

 

Queer As Funk Kick off Pride weekend with East Van’s own incredibly unique 10-piece funk/soul/motown powerhouse, high-energy dance band with burlesque by the incredible Lola Frost, drag by the smoking hot Beardonce, DJ Slade on the decks and all hosted by the inimitable Miss Kiss! Saturday, Aug. 1

Terry Wallace Memorial Breakfast Recover from the Davie Street Block Party with syrup-covered pancakes and other delicious breakfast delights. The Vancouver Pride Society invites you to this by-donation community breakfast, courtesy of Independent Grocer, honouring one of the founders of Pride in Vancouver, former owner of the Castle Pub, and responsible for the incorporation of the VPS. 8:30am on Aug. 1 at Bute Plaza in the Davie Street Village. Pride in the Village BBQ Show your Pride and join folks in the Davie Street Village to refuel at the by-donation barbecue honouring the history, successes and challenges experienced by the LGBTQ community of Vancouver. 12pm-4pm on Aug. 1 at Bute Plaza in the Davie Street Village. By donation.

 

Vancouver Dyke March Join the celebration of being a queer woman or ally at the 12th Annual March and Festival. Meet at McSpadden Park, off Commercial Drive, to help create art, paint faces, and make banners to walk with your community down The Drive to the festival grounds at Grandview Park. Amy Wilding hosts the family-friendly celebration featuring live performances, artisan vendors, and good vibes with this grass-roots organization working toward greater visibility, pride and community engagement. ASL interpreters will be on site, and pets on-leash are welcome. Noon on Aug. 1 at McSpadden Park (Victoria Drive between East 6th and East 4th Ave.).

 

El Hangover The legendary tropical East Van pool party continues! Head over after the Dyke March to cool off in the adult-sized kiddie pool, lounge on the astro turf, shake your booty on the dance floor courtesy of DJ Bey (TO), DJ Delux and a debut set from Ponyboy and fuel up from the food truck. COSMOPHONY Eleven composers share their inner reflections on outer space in Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa’s solo piano project inspired by the beauty and the mystery of the cosmos, in this multi-media spectacle lit only by projections of images of our solar system, co-presented by the Powell Street Festival and the Queer Arts Festival. 2pm at Firehall Arts Centre. Admission is free.

 

The Honda Celebration of Light Vancouver’s annual musically-synchronized fireworks display returns. Team Canada will be performing a 25-minute fireworks display set to music (which is broadcast over the radio station LG104.3 FM) at 10pm sharp on Aug. 1, rain or shine, at English Bay. Laugh Out Come out to the queer comedy romp of the season where Vancouver Pride’s official comedy show sees comedian Darcy Michael taking the stage with Symone Says, Vancouver’s First Lady of Glam, Queer Prov, and host Drex from Drex Live on CKNW. This evening of side-splitting laughter also stars Elvira Kurt of The Comedy Network’s Popcultured, and partial proceeds support community organizations A Loving Spoonful and Friends For Life. Absolut Hype It’s the Pride edition of Absolut Drag-u-Lous with Carlotta Gurl and her very best of the best – your favourite queens getting Pride started and DJ Mike Bermudez to keep you dancing all night. Doors at 9pm, with a 10:45 showtime on Aug. 1 at Junction (1138 Davie St.). Cover is $15.

Sunday, Aug. 2

Sunset Beach Pride Festival Follow the parade to its happy ending and celebrate Pride in one of Vancouver’s most beautiful waterfront parks. Bring your friends, bring the family! The Pride Market hosts hundreds of exhibitors, local artisans, community organizations, and food trucks. Check out live music, drag performers and speakers throughout the afternoon on the main stage or get down with DJs spinning in the beer garden. Sunset Beach is completely accessible, shade tenting will be provided and ASL interpreters will be provided by the BC Rainbow Alliance for the Deaf. Oh, and think about biking down – bike valet is on site. 11am-6pm on Aug. 2 at Sunset Beach (Beach Ave. at Jervis).

 

SIN Why resist? Indulge in Glitter’s official after-party, surrender to your primal urges and give in to temptation on a dark, sensual dance floor with sounds provided by Canada’s hottest music producers, international star Alain Jackinsky of Montreal and a special after-hours set by Vancouver’s Nick Bertossi. 2am-7am on Aug. 2 at Encore Dance Club (1058 Granville St.). History Sunday The Pride Party marathon gets under way right after the parade with the famous T-Dance (2:30-9pm) featuring DJs Darylo and Johnny Jover, and Iona Whipp’s Best Butt contest. From 9pm onward, DJs Zach Shore and Flipout pack the dance floor and bring you the best of Vancouver’s go gos to keep you going until the sun comes up. 2:30pm-4am on Aug. 2 at Celebrities (1022 Davie St.). Chicas in the Afternoon The legendary post parade afternoon party for women and friends is part garden party, part dance party, all full-on, rainbow-striped debauchery where everyone is welcome. Clean, Sober and Proud: Untoxicated Come hang with a gathering of people who live clean, sober and proud as this year’s event is held for the first time on Davie Street! Alaska Thunderf#ck, of RuPaul’s Drag Race, headlines the entertainment with a host of local favourites including Celestial Seasons, Alma B Itches, Scizzor Fairy, DJ Clean Freaq, DJ Ast and more. 7pm on Aug. 2 at Shopper’s Drug Mart Parking Lot (1125 Davie St.). Pride Youth Dance The VPS and Qmunity Gab Youth present a safe, sober space for dancing and connecting with friends for youths between the ages of 14-25. It’s a rainbow-filled Pride celebration specifically for queer, trans and allied youth with fabulous tunes, delicious mocktails and the opportunity to meet other queer peers. 8pm-12am on Aug. 2, stay tuned to VancouverPride.ca for location details, admission is by donation.

 

LIPSTICK JUNGLEOn the sexiest weekend of the summer Lipstick Jungle brings you the hottest pride event of 2015! World class DJs with DJ Kurty (LA, San Diego), DJ Skylar Love (Van), and DJ Emilita (Van). VIP access, Vegas giveaway, and smokin’ hot go go dancers. Hershe Bar: Where The Girls Are! Vancouver’s infamous long-weekend, monthly party steps it up for Pride with two clubs, five DJs and all the ladies you can imagine. Famous for the sensory overload of neon, confetti, CO2, electrifying music, and beautiful people this is Pride’s closing ritual for the elite partier. 9pm-3am on Aug. 2 at Harbour Event Centre and Prive Nightclub (750 Pacific Blvd). Monday, Aug. 3

UnitedClose off Pride weekend with universally acclaimed hit-maker Yinon Yahel from Tel Aviv as he makes his debut in the coveted closing spot at the special Pride edition of Vancouver’s wildest and sweatiest recurring after-hours party. Vancouver breakout star Del Stamp spins an opening set at this consistently sold-out event. 1am-7am on Aug. 3 at Encore Dance Club (1058 Granville St.). Cruisey T: Pride Recovery Cruise Not ready to say good-bye? Jaylene Tyme and Iona Whipp have one more party up their sleeve on the last cruise of Pride season with music from DJs Del Stamp and DomTop. Nurse your hangover with the cutie who was stuck working Pride, getting you drunk in the first place. Tuesday, Aug. 4 

Prox:imity Re:mix & Night Night explores universal aspects of life after dark – the freedom, the fun and the fears built into the cultural fabric of our society, with queer contemporary dance with Kinesis Dance somatheatro and MACHiNENOiSY’s youth dance intensive, as part of the Queer Arts Festival. 7:30pm at Roundhouse Community Centre. Cinema in the Park Enjoy a relaxing cinematic experience in the great outdoors. That’s right, the EVO Summer Cinema Series is back for another season with a fantastic line-up of classic family-friendly films at Second Beach in Stanley Park. Movies start at dusk on Aug. 4. Free seating is available on the Grand Lawn at Ceperley Meadow for up to 8,000 people every night – no reservations required. Just bring your friends, your picnic blanket or lawn chair, some snacks and enjoy this summer tradition. No blanket? Still hungry? No problem! The Fresh Air Cinema Snack Bar will be stocked with goodies and brand-new lawn blankets (for sale).    

 

Wednesday, Aug. 5

I am ME Explore your identity through movement in this Dance Out Loud workshop with Kinesis Dance somatheatro, for anyone who wishes to share and celebrate who they are in a comfortable, fun and supportive environment, as part of the Queer Arts Festival. 6pm at Roundhouse Community Centre. Admission by donation, but registration is recommended at  QueerArtsFestival.com

 

Q SONG PERFORMANCE Prepare to be dazzled by the extraordinary talent of young queer and allied singer/songwriters from the eleven week QSONG workshop, as part of the Queer Arts Festival. 7:30pm at Roundhouse Community Centre.  Admission by donation.

 

Thursday, Aug. 6

A QUEEN’S MUSIC: REGINALD MOBLEY IN RECITAL As with people of colour, the contribution of gay composers and musicians throughout history has been largely forgotten, hidden, or ignored. With a sampling of music of gay composers from as early as the 18th century, Countertenor Reggie Mobley invites you to join him standing in the light of a whitewashed past, and expose the spectrum of colour that deserves to be seen.  A production presented in collaboration with Early Music Vancouver and the Queer Arts Festival. 7:30-9:30pm at Roundhouse Community Centre. Friday, Aug. 7

GLITTER IS FOREVER QAF’s final blowout is the closing night & volunteer appreciation party; a spot to revel in queer community, effervescent refreshments, and karaoke with glitter. Costumes encouraged, hosted by the Sparkly and Fabulous David C. Jones. 7:30pm at Roundhouse Community Centre. Admission by donation.

 

Saturday, Aug. 8

Pride Night with the Whitecaps Vancouver Whitecaps take on Real Salt Lake FC at the third annual Pride night where your ticket gets you admission and a Whitecaps FC Pride scarf.
