Mothers often battle how to manage both their careers and spending meaningful time with their children.
Shannon Heth Vergette is definitely conquering the challenge. The director of Heth PR has her work cut out for her, balancing the time she loves to spend with her 10-month-old son Mauritz while still managing her company.
I not only have a baby to raise, but a business to nurture, and life can be very busy and our days very long, but we are doing great.
Owning her own business means Heth has a little more flexibility, as well as more responsibility.
Three days after I gave birth I was on the phone with a client, said Heth. But I went into the office slowly, about one or two days a week for the first three months with the baby. And thats great because I am also able to work from home.
Heths days are longer than most, beginning her morning at 6am so she has time to play with Mauritz before heading to the office.
She comes home just in time to put him to sleep, often running out shortly after to a work-related event.
It is a challenge to not feel guilty for not seeing Mauritz during the day, but the biggest challenge so far is also learning to cut myself some slack, she says.
