From Sport Chek to Sochi

OnNovember 6, Sport Chek, the Canadian Olympic Committee, and Adidas are launching the Canadian Olympic Team High Performance Collection. Available at Sport Chek, the collection arrives as excitement builds for the Sochi 2014 Winter Games, which are just 93 days away. Ashleigh McIvor, 2010 Ski Cross Olympic gold medalist, will be onsite to help Sport Chek celebrate and unveil the new clothing line. In addition to the launch, Sport Chek is recognizing the University of British Columbia Alpine Ski Team. With few Canadian post-secondary schools offering a competitive Alpine athletics division, the UBC team competes almost exclusively against international schools.

Two decades of being in Front

Front and Company at 3772 Main is celebrating their 20th anniversary next week. They began in 1993 selling quality consignment, affordable antiques and elegant vintage jewelry out of a tiny shop down the street from where they are now, and have since built long-standing relationships with more than 5,000 consignors. Thats a lot of birthday cards in the mail!

Start setting aside coats for kids

The Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association (GVHBA) will launched its 18th annual Coats for Kids campaign from November 18 to December 6 in support of the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, a group whose outreach helps to provide a brighter Christmas for families in need. Last year the response to Coats for Kids was heartwarming as Lower Mainland residents donated more than 3,000 coats, scarves, gloves, blankets and new unwrapped toys and gifts for distribution to children, teenagers and adults, said GVHBA Chair Lynn Harrison in a release.

Lifetime Collective comes to Little Mountain

Last week, local clothingcompanyLifetime Collective opened its first flagship store in VancouversLittle Mountainneighbourhood. With clothing the main focus, the store is also part gallery in keeping with Lifetime Collectives collaborative spirit. Surrounding a tight-knit group of artists, musicians and friends, the store will be a place to host events and introduce partnered projects to their Vancouver audience. Presently, Little Mountain Workshop is exhibiting photos from local photographer Jennilee Marigomen and has selected pieces from Vancouver ceramicist, Lindsay Hampton on hand. The new Lifetime Collective Flagship Store / Little Mountain Workshop is at 4386 Main.

Happiness is a warm blanket

Blankfest Vancouver,the music charity fundraiser, returns Nov. 9 for its second annual event insupport ofthe citysCovenant House a non-profit shelter that helps street youth from age 16-24 who have fled physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse, along with those who have been forced from their homes or those who have aged out of foster care. Last year,the full-to-capacity event raised over$1,000andover 200 clothing itemsfor the citys less fortunate. This years event will see seven local bands, plus the support of bands from Kelowna and Calgary blasting rock n roll, hard rock and metal from 7:30pm to 2am at The Railway Club (579 Dunsmuir) to raise awareness, funds and clothing for the citys homeless.
